Lecturer within the Department of Criminology at the University of Leicester. A criminal-justice researcher since 1993, Mawby offered the Inquiry evidence from his research on police-media relations.
McLaughlin was Professor of Criminology at the School of Arts and Social Sciences of City, University of London at the time of giving evidence. Together with Dr Greer (later Professor Greer), he submitted extensive academic research on the changing nature of news media/police-chief relations in the wake of phone-hacking, "trial by media" and hostile relations between press and police on issues of race.
